Al-Awda New York, The Palestine Right to Return Coalition

Media Accuracy Project/Middle East and Paper Tiger Television
Invite you to: A private screening of "
Rock, Paper, Missiles"
followed by a working discussion on the issue of media and the Palestinian struggle.

Date: Tuesday February 13 2001
Time: 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
Place: Columbia University, Lerner Hall, Ramp Lounge West

Please join us for a screening of "Rock, Paper Missiles", a 15-minute video produced by Paper Tiger and MAP/ME which investigates the crucial role of U.S. government policy in Israel's violent occupation of Palestinian land, as well as the complicity of American mainstream media in obfuscating the central issues of the struggle for American audiences.

The video is aimed at progressive-minded Americans who may not be familiar with the details of the issue, and attempts to give them a information on some of the central issues of the struggle: the historical dispossession of Palestinians, the illegal Israeli occupation of Palestinian land, the denial of Palestinian refugees' rights to return, and the militarization of the region for U.S. economic and other interests.

The video screening will be followed by a working discussion where we hope to identify effective means of targeting the American media to eventually bring about better coverage of the issue, and will look at ways of creating our own media networks to make better resources available to activists and others who are working on the issue.

This program is co-sponsored by Turath, the North African and Middle Eastern Culture Club

RSVP to: kdr7@columbia.edu (RSVP needed for non-Columbia students)

Directions:

Lerner Hall is the large building on the northeast corner of 114th and Broadway - the entrance of the building is from the Columbia University campus, so one needs to come through the small gates just north of 114th and Broadway, and walk up the side of the building to the main doors. Non-Columbia people will have to tell the guard at the door that they are attending the Turath concert, and will be directed from there to the performance space. A map of campus is at this link - click on section "H" for a close up of LernerHall.
