Al-Awda Rejects Attacks on BDS Conference at the University of Pennsylvania

As an advocate of Boycotts, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) against Israel, Al-Awda, The Palestine Right to Return Coalition rejects the latest attacks on the movement by former CIA Director James Woolsey and Jonathan Schanzer of the pro-Israel neocon groups. These attacks were joined by Ruben Gur, a professor at University of Pennsylvania, who wrote an op-ed in The Daily Pennsylvanian labeling activists and leaders of the movement as Nazis.

These types of vicious attacks reflect the bankrupt and pitiful defense the pro-Israel groups have to offer. Using the same old tactics of labeling anyone who exposes Israel is unacceptable and must be defeated on US campuses.

We demand that University of Pennsylvania President Amy Gutmann speak out against these attacks on the BDS movement and protect freedom of speech on the University Pennsylvania campus. This type of rhetoric should not be allowed against campus activists and visitors especially coming from those who can’t accept the truth and the decimation of accurate information about Israel and its occupation of Palestine to students.

Al-Awda, The Palestine Right to Return Coalition stands firm in its support of all BDS actions until the restoration of all Palestinian fundamental human, legal, and historical rights in full.
